The VXC Girls were up first and the State 6A Girls field went out like a rocket as expected. After the first mile VXC was in 13th place but charging back. By mile 2 they had pulled back four places to 9th and finished the final mile in 8th place overall. This was the 8th consecutive trip to 6A State where the VXC Girls have always placed in the Top 10. The ladies were lead once again by Sophomore Tibbie Mustacchia in 44th place overall.
The VXC Boys were up next and the State Runner-Ups from last year were ready to go for the title. Similarly to the Girls race, the Boys race went out quick and VXC were 10th after mile 1 and 200 points behind defending champion Carroll. By mile 2 the VXC Boys had pulled themselves in to 2nd place but were still 70 points behind. Hudson Haley battled it out at the front falling just short of the Individual State Title (2nd – 15:04). By the finish the VXC Boys had pulled back another 50 points and pulled even closer to Carroll. The VXC Boys finished with 69 points, just 21 points behind the current 5 Nationally ranked team earning their 2nd Runner Up trophy in two years. Congratulations to both teams on a great race and phenomenal 2023 Season!
